Policy & Land Use Regulations

Recognizing the Connection Between Planning and User-Friendly, Understanding Development Regulations

SAMPLE PROJECTS

Form Based Code

Somersworth, New Hampshire

Many communities across the country are recognizing the connection between clear and understandable development regulations and the level of redevelopment activity in urban areas. Resilience Planning & Design has worked with three NH communities to develop a form-based code including Dover, NH, Lancaster, NH and more recently, Somersworth, NH. Through this process, we evaluate the existing pattern of development and work with towns and cities on defining their goals for the future. We then create a new regulatory framework with clear standards and graphics to ensure that future development supports mixed use development activity and contributes to the vibrancy of the downtown.

Groton Zoning Regulations

Groton, New Hampshire

The Town of Groton hired Resilience Planning & Design to create and facilitate a public outreach and engagement process to inform the drafting of a new zoning ordinance. This included mailings and media outreach and a series of open houses that led to the drafting of a new comprehensive zoning ordinance to implement the recently adopted municipal master plan, which emphasized natural resource protection and keeping the rural landscape of their community.

Jackson Housing Study

Jackson, New Hampshire

To better understand and plan for housing-related challenges the Town of Jackson partnered with Resilience Planning & Design to devise housing solutions grounded in place that make sense for Jackson. This required engaging residents and other stakeholders throughout the process as possible housing solutions and future recommendations were considered. The project has now moved ahead with regulatory and non-regulatory solutions that will ensure a broad range of housing is available within the community for years to come.
